Niel-Seal — Generator End-Shield Sealing

Niel-Seal for Hydrogen-Cooled Generators and Rotating Equipment

Niel-Seal (formerly Tite-Seal® by Abbey Products) is purpose-engineered for hydrogen-cooled turbo-generator end-shield groove sealing and general rotating-equipment service. Available from Project Sales Corp for customers and applications within India.

By Project Sales Corp  ·  Visakhapatnam  ·  Sealing Solutions Series

Hydrogen-cooled turbo-generators — including large hydrogenerators, thermal power plant generators, and turbo-generators in industrial facilities — require a sealing compound specifically suited to the end-shield groove channels between the shield halves and the stator housing. These groove channels must be sealed against hydrogen gas leakage. A standard silicone sealant, a general-purpose thread compound, or a paste applied without understanding the application geometry will not provide the required seal integrity.

Niel-Seal is the purpose-engineered compound for this application. Formerly manufactured as Tite-Seal® by Abbey Products, it is injected into the groove channels, remains permanently flexible in service, and is unaffected by the range of fluids and gases encountered in generator environments. Available from Project Sales Corp for customers and applications within India.

Grade Selection: Light-Weight vs Medium-Weight

Niel-Seal is available in two grades, differentiated by consistency rather than by chemistry or performance:

Light-Weight — Lower consistency, greater ease of pumpability through the application system. Selected where the groove channel geometry requires the compound to travel further through narrow passages before filling completely.

Medium-Weight — Higher consistency. Selected where the generator end-shield groove sealing requirement demands a thicker film or heavier compound to fill the groove effectively. Both grades share the same formulation, raw materials, and manufacturing process as the original Tite-Seal® compound.

Grade selection is based on the specific groove channel geometry and the consistency requirement of the generator end-shield design. If in doubt, consult PSC's product support team with details of the generator make, model, and groove dimensions.

Where Niel-Seal Fits in the PSC Rotating Equipment Range

Niel-Seal addresses a specific sealing requirement that is distinct from the turbine parting-plane and flange joint applications covered by BIRKOSIT, FILLING, and Arexons Motorsil D Red. On a generator overhaul, the end-shield groove is Niel-Seal territory; the bearing housing joint may be Arexons Motorsil D Red; and if the generator's turbine driver is being overhauled at the same time, the turbine parting plane requires BIRKOSIT or FILLING. PSC supplies all of these products and can support consolidated supply against your overhaul bill of materials.
