Sealing Compounds for Gearboxes and Industrial Engines
Industrial gearboxes and large engines share a common sealing challenge: flanged housing joints that must remain oil-tight over extended service intervals under vibration, thermal cycling, and oil exposure. Project Sales Corp supplies the correct products for these applications.
Gearboxes in power plant and process plant service — driving fans, pumps, compressors, and generators — operate continuously for years between major maintenance events. The housing joints of these machines must remain oil-tight under constant vibration, temperature cycling from cold ambient at startup to full operating temperature at load, and continuous exposure to the lubricating oil that circulates through them.
Industrial engines — gas engines, diesel engines, and dual-fuel engines used for power generation and mechanical drive — add further complexity: their casing and cover joints must tolerate fuel, combustion residues, and coolant on the water side, in addition to oil.
Arexons Motorsil D Red — Gearbox and Engine Cover Joints
Arexons Motorsil D Red is a one-component RTV (room temperature vulcanising) silicone sealant that forms a flexible, durable seal in situ on gearbox, pump, and compressor parting planes and flange joints. It moisture-cures at room temperature and is suited to rigid flanges where a formed-in-place gasket is required. Application suitability must be confirmed against operating conditions, fluid type, and temperature for each specific joint — not all flange geometries and service conditions are appropriate for this product.
It is available in 60 g tubes, stocked by Project Sales Corp in Visakhapatnam.
BIRKOSIT for Precision Gearbox Split Joints
Where a gearbox has a precision-machined split housing joint — particularly large industrial gearboxes with machined mating faces — BIRKOSIT is the appropriate sealing compound. Its 900°C temperature rating is far above what any gearbox joint will reach, but more relevant are its 250 bar pressure rating, permanent elasticity, and the fact that it does not cure and will not become brittle under the vibration loads of a gearbox in service. Surface damage must be ≤0.2 mm for BIRKOSIT to be applied directly; if damage is deeper, FILLING 1000 or FILLING 2000 is required first.
Application Summary
| Joint | Recommended Product | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Gearbox housing split joint — precision machined | BIRKOSIT or FILLING Basic | Confirm surface damage ≤ 0.2 mm |
| Gearbox housing — damaged surface | FILLING 1000 or 2000 + FILLING Basic | Per damage depth assessment |
| Gearbox end covers and bearing caps | Arexons Motorsil D Red | Confirm suitability per conditions |
| Industrial engine valve covers, timing covers | Arexons Motorsil D Red | Confirm suitability per conditions |
| Industrial engine crankcase split joint | BIRKOSIT or Arexons Motorsil D Red | Per joint design and surface condition |
