BIRKOSIT Turbine Sealing Compound in India
BIRKOSIT is a single-component, non-curing paste sealing compound rated to 900°C for turbine parting planes, compressor casings, and high-pressure flanged joints. Available from Project Sales Corp for customers and applications within India.
When a steam turbine casing is opened for overhaul, the parting-plane joint must be re-sealed before the machine returns to service. The sealing compound used at that joint directly affects steam tightness, oil contamination risk, and the interval before the next overhaul. BIRKOSIT is the product that turbine OEMs, specialist overhaul contractors, and power plant maintenance teams specify for this joint — because it performs correctly under the conditions a turbine parting plane actually experiences.
BIRKOSIT is a single-component paste luting agent and sealing compound manufactured by A.I. Schulze Chemotechnische Fabrik e.K., Görlitz, Germany. It is applied to clean, dry metal surfaces at the parting plane. Critically, it does not cure — it remains permanently elastic and flexible throughout its service life. The joint can be placed under full load immediately after assembly, with no waiting time and no curing period.

Media Resistance
BIRKOSIT is resistant to all of the following at temperatures up to 900°C: hot steam, hot air, hot and cold water, light fuel oils, lubricants, crude oil, and natural gas. It contains no halogens, no sulphur, no lead, and no calcium compounds — critical for turbine service where these substances initiate stress corrosion cracking in casing metal under high temperature and cyclic stress.
OEM Approvals and Industry Track Record
BIRKOSIT carries Siemens Energy approval (TMI-Nr. 431/93b) and is specified by name in Siemens turbine overhaul procedures for all inner casing joints including nuclear PWR and BWR applications. GE/Alstom approval is also held. The product has been in continuous turbine service since 1952, developed in direct collaboration with Siemens. Indian organisations with established use of BIRKOSIT include BHEL, NTPC, NPCIL, Siemens India, Tata Power, Triveni Turbines, Kirloskar, and MAN Turbo.
Typical Applications
Steam turbines (HP, IP, LP casing parting planes, inner and outer casings, vane supports, bearing housings), gas turbines (combustion casing, compressor section), compressors, expanders, turboexpanders, generators, pumps, flanged pipe joints, screw joints, and any metallic connection sealing application where maximum temperature and pressure resistance is required.
